Implementation of PSANZ (Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand) clinical practice guidelines

Project outline

In 2010, the VMIA was approached by the Stillbirth Sub-Committee of the Maternity and Newborn Clinical Network to support the rollout of the Perinatal Mortality Group of the Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand (PSANZ) guidelines which acknowledge the importance of developing a systematic approach to the audit and review of perinatal deaths. The objective of this project was to communicate the PSANZ clinical practice guidelines for perinatal mortality audit.

Project partners

  • Department of Health – Clinical Networks (Lead partner)
  • VMIA.

Project outcomes

As part of the project, more than 150 obstetric services staff from 29 health services across Victoria attended workshops, with attendees rating the quality of the workshops very highly.

The translation into practice is currently being assessed and will be reported in the Consultative Council on Paediatric and Maternity Mortality Annual Report in 2012.
