Risk Register Software

FAQs

  • Who is the software for?
  • What will the software cost?
  • Who can access or use the software?
  • Will the software replace existing risk management or incident reporting software?
  • How do I install the software?
  • Is there a user guide?
  • Can the software be customised to meet our organisation’s risk framework?

Who is the software for?

The software has been developed specifically for the VMIA’s public sector clients and Community Service Organisations.

While all VMIA clients are free to trial and use the software, it has been designed primarily to meet the needs of smaller organisations and those wishing to maintain a simple and easy to use risk solution.

Organisations requiring a comprehensive Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) solution that supports governance and compliance reporting, audit planning and management or workflow and incident reporting and escalation, will find the software will not meet their needs.

The VMIA can provide information on commercial GRC solutions to clients needing a more sophisticated solution.

What will the software cost?

The software will be made available to VMIA clients at no cost.

Who can access or use the software?

All VMIA clients (i.e. Victorian public sector departments and agencies, as well as a range of community service and not-for-profit organisations) will be able to use the software if it meets their functional and/or technical requirements.

Will the software replace existing risk management or incident reporting software?

No. The software has been developed as a simple and easy risk management solution for organisations that do not need or cannot justify the cost of a sophisticated commercial Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) solution. The software also does not offer incident reporting or audit planning functionality.

How do I install the software?

The software can be installed from the Internet by using web links and passwords provided by the VMIA. In some cases, users may be provided with an installation CD.

Is there a user guide?

Yes. An end-user guide with set-up instructions and application screen shots will be available for download from the VMIA website and/or emailed to clients as part of the software set-up process.

Can the software be customised to meet our organisation’s risk framework?

Yes. The software allows organisations to enter its own:

  • Risk rating scales (consequence, likelihood, control effectiveness)
  • Risk categories
  • Business units
  • Strategic objectives
  • Heat map colouring (based on a 5 by 5 matrix)
  • Risk Owners

There may be components of your framework that cannot be accommodated by the software – for example risk escalation protocols are not defined within the system.
