Motor Vehicle Policy 2019/20 updates

  • Reduction to 21 days before a stolen vehicle is declared a constructive total loss (previously 28 days)
  • Expansion of definition of Insured to include entities the Insured has assumed an obligation to insure
  • Individually rated vehicles to be covered for up to 28 days without notification (previously 21 days)
  • Clause included so as not to prejudice Insured’s rights following the misuse of vehicle providing Insured is unaware of it
  • Cover has been extended to include both towing and pushing of vehicles, caravans and trailers
  • Cover for locks and keys no longer conditional on a Section 1 claim. Also, the definition has been broadened to allow for modern entry to vehicles
  • Temporary repairs to now enable Insured to continue to destination rather than just to ‘nearest place of safety’
  • Policy now includes cover for ‘expediting expenses’ such as overtime etc
  • ‘Failure to secure vehicle’ exclusion now reduced to ‘theft of or from vehicle’
  • Section 11 extended to include compensation for Insured’s costs for clean up including decontamination
  • Personal injury – extent of cover extended to include ‘Compensation’
  • Policy broadened to include all costs of providing first aid at the scene of an accident
  • Road registered forklifts no longer included in ‘tools of trade’ exclusion
  • Policy extended to include cover for costs and expenses incurred in Crash Scene Management
  • Policy extended to include cover for costs and expenses in management of management of adverse publicity
  • Policy extended to include cover for costs of psychological counselling following involvement in fatal or serious accident
  • Policy now covers liability relating to radioactive isotopes when such isotopes are used for commercial, agricultural, medical, scientific or other similar peaceful purposes.
  • Cover extended to 5 tonne GVM for excess free windscreen claims (previously 4.5 tonnes)
  • Definition of Insured extended to include ‘Acquired Entities’
  • Where hired vehicle has separate insurance, cover extended for difference in excess
