How to get insurance from VMIA
We provide insurance products and services to the Victorian State Government as well as to non-government organisations.
Government organisations are eligible
If you are a Victorian Government entity, you may be eligible for insurance from VMIA, and most likely are already a client. Contact us to discuss your insurance needs.
Non-government organisations can apply
If you are not a government entity, you may still apply for insurance — under Section 25A of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority Act 1996. This will normally apply if your organisation provides services to the Victorian community and the nature of its activities means that insurance is either not available or prohibitively expensive.
To request insurance, you need to write to the Minister for Finance, highlighting factors such as lack of affordability and/or availability of insurance in the commercial market.
The Minister may then seek technical advice from the Department of Treasury and Finance and VMIA before making a decision.
