Overview

The opportunity to participate in a Roundtable discussion of The Internal Audit of Clinical Areas for Health Services. 

This Roundtable will consist of government and industry participants to discuss implementation and sustainability mechanisms of conducting internal of clinical areas in a health service setting.

Facilitators

Leanne Toby, BNRN, BN, MAppSc ISM, GCert IA, VMIA Head of Enterprise Risk

Leanne is an experienced risk professional specialising in enterprise risk management and internal audit. She currently leads the in-house risk management function at VMIA where her focus is on working alongside leaders to promote risk based thinking. Her passion for risk management is reinforced by more than 25 years of experience in diverse roles including health professional, risk advisor, educator and service leader. In these roles, Leanne has led the development and implementation of risk management frameworks and provided guidance on the design and effectiveness of risk controls. She is passionate about finding innovative ways to translate risk management theory into practical tools for everyday use.

Leanne is also a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and represents ANZIIF on the risk management standards committee of Standards Australia

Session Subject Matter Experts

Alison Brown is a consultant specialising in healthcare governance and clinical governance. Alison has extensive experience in the Australian healthcare sector working with clinicians, managers and boards on developing appropriate systems and processes to support effective governance. Alison was the project manager for the VMIA-EGHS Internal Audit of Clinical Areas Project from 2012- 2016.

Mario Santilli has been employed in the health sector for over 30 years. He has a background as a psychiatric nurse with many years of experience in hospital based and community care settings. He completed further undergraduate and postgraduate studies in clinical care, as well as a Graduate Certificate of Management and has most recently completed his Master of Business Administration. Mario is currently employed by East Grampians Health Service as the Director of Development and Improvement. Mario is also a current member of the Committee of Management for the Ballarat and District Nursing and Health Care Group and he is the immediate past chair of the Elmhurst Bush Nursing Centre.
