An honest case for open disclosure

Trust is an integral component of maintaining strong healthcare.

That’s the message from Dr Liz Mullins, the Director of Medical Services at Djerriwarrh Health Services, speaking at a recent forum on open disclosure hosted by the Department of Health and Human Services.

“We are a profession for whom truth is an integral and essential part of what we do,” said Dr Mullins.

“Although it can be a very uncomfortable conversation, our patients have a remarkable trust in us, which we must not abuse. As custodians of healthcare systems, we owe it to our patients to tell them the truth, in good times and in bad.”
